19/2/03 Article on current status from Snowdonia Active

31/1/03 After much protest during the consultation phase, the proposed strategy has been scaled back. The second phase of this project will go forward under a new project officer and implementation will only be with the agreement and support of the community and focus groups.
The aim is still to improve public transport, but not to restrict parking, in fact to improve the existing parking facilities. The less controversial areas of the strategy such as new cycle and pedestrian routes should go ahead.

Basic Proposals of the Snowdonia Green Key strategy:
bulletEstablish a series of Gateway village and towns
bulletHigh Medium and low seasonal arrangements for parking
High - summer: up to 2 hours in core area
Low: Limited long term parking in core area
bulletRoadside parking in core area curtailed
bulletLong term parking provided in gateways
bulletFree regular and frequent bus service from gateways to core area paid for by parking charges.
bulletToken system for parking within communities in key area value redeemable against local goods.
bulletNew cycle and pedestrian routes through the National Park.

To Comment on these proposals contact Gwenllian Owens at Gwynedd County Council.
