The Conclusive Map of Northern Snowdonia showing Registered Common Land
and Open Country has now been published. The section around Tal y Waen is
shown below. From May this year the public will have a right of access to
the land shown shaded or dotted. (There are of course some exceptions and
temporary restrictions to this rule). If you want to see other areas of
Snowdonia go to: http://www.ccw.gov.uk/mapping/index.cfm
But there is till much work to do by bodies such as the local access
forums (Mandy is a member of the Arfon and Dwyfor LAF) to make access more
workable i.e. creation of 'corridors' to reach access land, gates, stiles,
parking places, signposting etc. There is also lots of work balancing
access with issues such as fire prevention, SSSIs, mines and quarries etc.
Watch this space! Also moves are being made to ensure access to the
foreshore, prioritise maintenance of the existing rights of way. |
